Unfiltered? - June 2024

A chance acquisition of two wooden boxes that previously stored 100 glass lantern slides belonging to the London Metropolitan Water Board has propelled Phil on a quest to refill the empty boxes. Guided by the index cards that remained within the boxes, he has begun to re-create the slides, 24 of which are on display in Unspun. Some are an imaginative interpretation of the index card descriptions; others are close reproductions of the originals. How do we uncover the truth?

His installation, Unfiltered?, hints at a contemporary narrative where water companies are at the forefront of much environmental care discourse, spinning a tale over time back to Victorian and Edwardian London.
