A Close Shave With The Truth - April 2022
Legend has it that the Filet Gallery, where we staged our MA Fine Art and Fine Art Printmaking (re)Flex Exhibition was once a Barber's shop - The Four Locks, named after the lock system on the nearby Regents Canal. And this is where the Hoxton Fin, a hairstyle popular with hipster types the early 2000s, was invented.
This original mirror from the shop was recovered from a skip during the transformation of the barbers shop into an art gallery and was reinstalled for the (re)Flex exhibition.
If asked about the work, the artist would tell this story and from time to time the sound of electric hair clippers, scissors and less identifiable sounds would emanate from behind the mirror. Is there any truth to the story? What triggers the sound? #factcheck
